Soufrière is where St Lucia stops being generic Caribbean and becomes recognisably Saint Lucian. The Pitons are here. Sulphur Springs and Diamond Falls are here. Anse Chastanet and Anse des Pitons are here. Jade Mountain, Anse Chastanet, Ladera and Sugar Beach are the anchor resorts, with StoneField Villa filling the boutique gap under $1,000 a night.
The five Soufrière resorts we recommend
- Jade Mountain. 3-wall sanctuaries facing the Pitons, no TVs, adults-preferred. $1,200 to $3,500 per night. The iconic-view pick.
- Anse Chastanet. Jade Mountain’s sister on the reef, jungle-forward, mid-luxury pricing. $650 to $1,400 per night.
- Ladera. 3-wall suites facing the Pitons at two-thirds of the Jade Mountain experience for a third of the price. $700 to $1,600 per night.
- Sugar Beach A Viceroy. Between the two Pitons on Anse des Pitons beach, arguably the postcard address in St Lucia. $900 to $2,400 per night.
- StoneField Villa. Boutique cottages on a working cocoa estate, Piton view from most units. From $450 per night.
Getting there
Hewanorra International (UVF) is 60 to 75 minutes by road. George F.L. Charles (SLU) in Castries is 90 minutes plus Castries traffic (add 20 to 30 minutes at peak). Boat transfer from Rodney Bay is available for Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet guests via arrangement, 45 minutes each way. Helicopter is $180 to $250 per seat, 15 minutes.
Two St Lucias, two calculations
All-inclusive or independent boutique. Which one fits your trip.
All-inclusive (Sandals, BodyHoliday, Coconut Bay, Windjammer)
Priced per couple per night. Food, drinks, most non-motorised watersports and tips included. Book-and-forget. Best for first-time St Lucia travellers, honeymooners on a fixed budget, families who want the kids-club to run itself.
- From $600 to $2,000 per couple per night
- Adult-only options (all three Sandals St Lucia, Rendezvous, Serenity)
- Airport transfer usually included on premium tiers
- Off-property excursions still cost extra
- Wedding + honeymoon packages are the strongest use-case
Independent boutique (Jade Mountain, Anse Chastanet, Cap Maison, Ladera, StoneField)
Priced per room per night. Food and drinks à la carte or dining plan. Best for repeat Caribbean travellers, design-forward couples, foodies who want to eat at Cliff at Cap or Jade Mountain Club rather than at a resort buffet.
- From $450 (StoneField) to $3,500+ (Jade Mountain Galaxy) per night
- Piton-view rooms are almost exclusively an independent-boutique story
- Book the airport transfer separately (US$120 to US$200 return)
- Dining plans available if you want the all-in comfort
- Off-property Soufrière restaurants (Orlando’s, Chateau Mygo) open up
