St Lucia is one of the must-see tourist destinations in the Caribbean. The island’s striking natural landscapes and amazing white sand beaches entice a lot of people from all over the world to include this beautiful island in their Caribbean trip itinerary. If you want to travel to St. Lucia, you have nothing to worry about because there are two airports in St. Lucia, Hewanorra International and George F.L. Charles.
Some airlines such as JetBlue have scheduled direct flights to St. Lucia on varying days while others have daily flights. Each of the airports in St Lucia receives cargo from DHL and Federal Express. George F.L. Charles airport usually handles smaller charter planes from neighboring Caribbean islands like St. Barthelemy and Montserrat. As a bonus when you fly into either Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) or George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) you will have a spectacular view of the Piton Mountains!
Hewanorra International Airport(UVF)
This St. Lucia airport is the larger of the two in the island. It is located near Vieux-Fort on the southern area of the island. The airport code for Hewanorra International is UVF.
If you are arriving from the U.S., Europe or on another international destination it is likely that you will arrive at Hewanorra Airport which handles half a million passengers every year. The airport is equipped to land the larger planes such as the Boeing 747 and 777 in addition to smaller aircraft.

**TIP**If you arrive at Hewanorra Airport and are staying in the northern part of St. Lucia you should try to get a flight arriving at George Charles Airport to save time and money. The drive from Hewanorra Airport to Castries and beyond takes about an hour and a half and can cost $80 USD or more depending on the amount of people, luggage and destination.
George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU)
This is the second and the smaller of the two airports in St Lucia. It was once known as the Vigie Airport. The airport is located about a mile north of Castries, the capital of St Lucia. The airport code of George F.L. Charles is SLU. Perhaps the most notable feature of this St Lucia airport is that the runway is parallel with the very famous Vigie beach.
Compared to Hewanorra International, there are fewer international direct flights to St. Lucia at George Charles Airport. LIAT airline, for instance, caters to commuters wanting to have flights from St Lucia to Antigua, Georgetown, Barbados, Saint Vincent, San Juan, Grenada and Port of Spain. Many charter flights to St. Lucia from the surrounding Caribbean islands arrive at George Charles Airport. Facilities and Services
Both of these St Lucia airports have the usual amenities you may find in other countries’ as well. There are banks where you can exchange your currencies, various restaurants and cafes, duty-free shopping stores and, medical services. Services for the disabled are available as well. You just need to inform the authorities beforehand.
Both airports have a parking lot located outside in the front. Hewanorra International allows for parking of up to a hundred cars. Taxis are in line just outside the airport, waiting for potential passengers. For those who prefer driving their own way around the island, there are car rental facilities within the building as well such as Avis and other local St Lucia car rental services. There are no luggage storage facilities at either airport.

If you are visiting from the US, Canada and Europe it’s most likely that you do not need a visa. All visitors must carry valid passports.
There is a departure tax of $26 USD ($68 XCD) for all passengers over the age of 12. The tax is applied to ticket prices at the time of purchase.
